After Kigali in 2022 and Helsinki in 2023, the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) will be held in Brussels from April 15 to 18, 2024. The file on the financing of circular solutions, particularly in Africa, will be discussed in the Belgian capital.

Belgium is hosting the next World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF). From April 15 to 18, 2024 in Brussels, the event jointly organized by the Finnish innovation fund Sitra and the African Alliance for the Circular Economy (Acea) will bring together business leaders and policy makers from five continents around several workshops, notably on the contribution of the circular economy to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 4,000 WCEF24 participants will discuss advances in terms of techniques and financing in this sector but also the inclusion of Africa in the transition to a circular economy. Objective, to promote eco-responsible production and consumption (SDG12) in the food, construction and textile sectors, as well as the creation of new jobs to effectively respond to global warming and inflation on a global scale .

This is a major issue which fits with the recommendations made in 2023 during the WCEF which was held in Helsinki, the Finnish capital. “Investors recognize that circular solutions represent good business opportunities while addressing the root causes of major ecological sustainability problems, both climate change and biodiversity loss ,” says Sitra.

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) engaged in promoting waste recycling policies among governments, the African Circular Economy Alliance (Acea), the African Network for the Circular Economy (Acen ) created in 2017 by South Africa, Nigeria and Rwanda, as well as the African Development Bank (AfDB) which launched its African Circular Economy Facility (Acef) in 2021, are the main expected regional institutions at the meeting in Brussels in spring 2024.
