The academic excellence that trains tomorrow's experts for the most urgent challenge of today is in Venice and sees the collaboration of the CMCC Foundation. All the scientific and socio-economic aspects of climate change offered in two high-level training programs.

Italian and international students willing to address the current challenge of climate change can apply for the forthcoming edition (academic year 2020-2021) of the PhD Programme in Science and Management of Climate Change, organized by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and CMCC Foundation with the collaboration of the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS).

“The world needs experts with a high-level scientific profile able to deeply understand the climate challenge, find solutions and design the right policies to cope with it” affirms Carlo Carraro, coordinator of the PhD Programme in Science and Management of Climate Change. The Programme has been responding for over 10 years to this request by preparing experts with a solid scientific and socio-economic background. Students are exposed to innovative research experiences focusing on the dynamics of climate change, the design and execution of numerical and mathematical models of the climate and the economy, the methodologies and techniques for evaluating, managing and assessing mitigation and adaptation policies.

The PhD Programme, which is conducted entirely in English, offers six 4-year fully funded scholarships, with the first year devoted to full-time coursework.

PhD students can access worldwide research and placement opportunities, thanks to the Programme’s connections to a broad international network of top-level universities and research centers in the field. Completing their studies and receiving their PhDs, they will also receive the qualification of MPhil in Science and Management of Climate Change.

The call for applications for the PhD Programme for academic year 2020/21 is now open.
Deadline: April 21, 2020, 1pm CET.

In early April the call for application will open also for the 2nd-level Master of Research in Science and Management of Climate Change, for those interested to pursue the common preparatory one year coursework, and then enter the job market.

The Master, now at its third edition, includes the attendance to the courses of the first year of the PhD Programme in Science and Management of Climate Change, including labs, guest lectures from international experts, seminars, hands-on sessions, group activities, presentation of individual/group projects.

The multi-cultural dimension of the Programme is built on a consolidated network with leading international organisations and research centres worldwide. The Programme offers students a unique range of opportunities for both internships and placement: from local entities such as municipalities, to NGOs such as the Mar Fund, to international organizations such as the European Environmental Agency and the Climate Policy Initiative.

"The Third edition of the Master, embedded within the PhD Programme, will have a new curriculum articulated into two streams. The first focuses on modelling tools to assess the economic aspects of climate change; the second deepens the analysis of biophysical and social impacts of climate change” explains Enrica De Cian, Director of the Master Programme. “Among the new courses we have climate finance, and our international faculty is enriched by new prestigious members. Moreover, this year, study grants are also available covering partial enrolment fee.”

The call for applications for academic year 2020/2021 will be published in early April 2020. Expressions of interest can be sent to phd-climate-change@unive.it and enrica.decian@unive.it at any time.

The Master will be presented online on March 30, 2020 at 10:00 am CET. The subscription form to attend the presentation is available at this link.
