How Extrupet’s PET plant is revolutionising recycling
With a capacity of 15,000 tonnes per year, the facility strengthens South Africa’s recycling infrastructure while supporting the circular economy
Extrupet officially launched its second bottle-to-bottle PET recycling plant at the ProPet facility, marking the first of its kind in the Western Cape.
The plant processes post-consumer PET bottles collected from across the country. Bottles are first sorted and thoroughly cleaned before being chopped into flakes.
These flakes undergo additional cleaning and sorting before being transformed into amorphous chips. Finally, the amorphous chips are processed into ART-PET pellets, meeting global food-grade specifications.
With a capacity of 15,000 tonnes per year, the facility strengthens South Africa’s recycling infrastructure while supporting the circular economy.
The high-quality ART-PET is supplied both locally and internationally, turning used bottles into valuable, sustainable material. The launch highlighted the country’s growing commitment to innovative recycling solutions. Watch as Shaun Bouwer, General Sales Manager, takes us through the facility.
