The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is pleased to support WAME (World Access to Modern Energy) and Energy Portraits in the Energy SELF Portraits PHOTOGRAPHS AND STORIES CONTEST 2020.

The contest lasts from 21 November 2020 to 30 April 2021, divided into three rounds of collection and winners announcement. A total of 15 prizes of USD 100 will be granted throughout the whole period of the contest (until 30 April 2021).   A final price of USD 500 will be awarded to the overall best photograph and story in Spring 2021.

The first round of the Energy SELF Portraits project has concluded successfully, and the Panel of Jurors are now evaluating the pictures and stories and the winners will be announced shortly. This second round of the contest (1 February – 21st March) gives special visibility to the topic of energy poverty, a problem that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 outbreak as the global recession triggered by lockdown has deepened pre-existing inequalities and emphasised the importance of energy and energy services in leading a safe, healthy and decent life.

Second deadline: 21 March 2021
Second round announcement of winners:  end of March 2021

TERRAT SECONDARY SCHOOL, TANZANIA:

A school without electricity is a missed opportunity for the development of an entire generation of students. Erasing energy poverty and achieving  universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all by 2030 requires accelerated deployment of renewable energy.
